Explore ways to enhance wellbeing through nature with Vanessa Warrington of Halkyn Castle Wood. Develop understanding of the unique benefits nature can bring as well as techniques you can use in your own wellbeing practice with people of all ages. This course is for those interested in, or who are already offering sessions to empower people to improve their physical and emotional wellbeing.

This course provides the theory, latest research and loads of practical ideas to help guide you through designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating a programme to support wellbeing in nature. You will learn skills that you can share with your existing client group including how to grow your client group and potential for funding. We will look at inclusivity, diversity, mental health, behaviour change, mindful practices, working with children, young people, and adults.

This course is ideal for woodland owners, therapists, teachers, TA’s, community practitioners, countryside officers, rangers, volunteer coordinators, forest school leaders, health service staff, HR managers or anyone who wishes to hone and widen their skills or add a new element to their organisation’s wellbeing offer.

The training is led by experienced Wellbeing in Nature Practitioner Vanessa Warrington
and takes place at Halkyn Castle Wood, NE Wales @resilienceathalkyncastlewood
You will enjoy four days of personal wellbeing and practical learning. You will complete a
workbook throughout the course and receive lots of support to develop your knowledge,
skills and confidence. This training includes learning about the forest environment, tool use,
fire safety and group management.

This award qualifies you to support wellbeing in nature and outdoor spaces.
The course covers three units of study at Level 2

Supporting Wellbeing in Nature Practice
To enable the learner to develop skills using nature to support wellbeing and an
understanding of how nature connection plays a role in this.
• Understand factors that influence human health and wellbeing.
• Understand wellbeing theories
• Understand the health and wellbeing benefits of a natural environment.
• Understand how to support a wellbeing programme
• Understand factors that influence the wellbeing of the environment
• Be able to assess risk for a wellbeing in nature.

Using Nature-Based Activities for Wellbeing
To enable the learner to develop skills using nature to support wellbeing and an
understanding of how nature connecRon plays a role in this.
• Understand the benefits of nature connection, and its relevance for present day
• Understand and experience nature using your own senses.
• Be able to contribute to nature art and nature writing activities for wellbeing

Outdoor Practical Skills
To enable the learner to use practical skills in the natural environment.
• Be able to carry out a range of outdoor practical tasks
• Be able to manage a campfire

Course structure:
• 4 face to face outdoor training days
• 1 face to face (or online) workbook development day
• Support throughout your training and development of your workbook, online, by
phone and in person.
• Access to Campfire Cymru and Cambium Sustainable comprehensive online
resources

This qualification is ideal for those who would like a more in-depth introductory course or
who are interested in possible progress to the Level 3.
Completion of the Level 2 booklet takes place during the course and at home. There is also
observation of your practical skills during the course.

Entry Qualifications Required:
• Aged 16 years or over
• Level 1 qualification or equivalent (1 GCSE)
• A current DBS check is expected and is the responsibility of your setting
• A suitable First Aid qualification is recommended to complement this course
