Some forest school practitioners just keep coming back to run sessions! Here are some of the friendly faces you are likely to see at Forest Families. Most of them did their training with us and many attended our family sessions with their own children.

Volunteers
Our volunteers are highly valued members of the team. They range from forest school trainees gaining experience and giving a little back to their community, through parents and carers who support our young people at sessions, to the young people themselves who are putting their new skills into practice. Thank you so much for all you do. Here’s a few you might recognise in action!
Members
We believe in supporting families over a long period of time, through the challenges of initial worries about a child, through the diagnosis journey, through transitions to school and then secondary school. Families often come to us for a first series of 6 forest school sessions and then stay in touch with us, coming back again and again. For this purpose, we operate a ‘half new, half experienced’ system with families, where half the spaces on a series of sessions are open to families who we have already worked with and half are reserved for new families. We find the peer support that is offered to new families from those who have been before is incredible. We have witnessed the development of so many friendships over the past 7 years of running these sessions. We know that families continue to support each other outside of our sessions, with phone calls, play dates, online, day trips and camping holidays. They know they have a community to reach out to when they need help and this space is held through our online closed facebook group and messenger chats. Through these, families ask for help and share ideas.
Because of this incredible community building itself, we are launching Campfire Cymru membership as a way to better recognise the contribution of parents, carers and volunteers and to offer opportunities to do more. More events, more volunteering opportunities, more training. We hope our members will help us shape the next 5 years of Campfire Cymru’s work so that we can continue to provide high quality sessions and training that bring benefits to families and individuals, while meeting our aim of breaking down barriers to participation.
