A trainee wearing a woodland crown

Please contact Becks Fowkes on 07989501335 to enquire about this course

This course runs alongside our Level 3 and is perfect for anyone already helping out at Forest School sessions who wants to develop their skills with a recognised qualification. Train alongside our Forest School level 3 trainees, following 4 days of the same course, then attend the first practical outdoor day. You will complete a workbook throughout the course and receive lots of support to develop your knowledge about how children play & learn. You will learn about the forest environment and develop your skills in tool use, fire safety and group management.

This award does not qualify you to set up and run your own forest school programmes. However it will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to become an invaluable assistant at forest school sessions, work with individuals and groups, run games & support a group in every aspect of forest school.

The course covers four units of study at Level 2 and looks in depth at practical skills, using the woodland as a sustainable resource and the theoretical side of planning for learning and play at Forest School.

  •
  • Supporting learning, play and development in the Natural Environment
  • Sustainable use and management of Natural Resources
  • Outdoor practical skills
  • Forest School Assistant

On this course you will:

  • Attend training days which consist of both theory and practical tasks
  • Assist at a Forest School programme in your chosen setting
  • Work with an established Level 3 Forest School Practitioner
  • Complete a portfolio for assessment

Course structure:

  • 5 face to face outdoor training days
  • 1 face to face portfolio development day
  • Support throughout your training and development of your portfolio, online, by phone and in person.
  • Access to Campfire Cymru and Cambium Sustainable’s comprehensive online resources

This qualification is ideal for those who would like a more in-depth introductory course or who need more practical and academic experience in order to progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Leading Forest School course.

Completion of the Level 2 booklet takes place during the course and whilst assisting a Forest School Practitioner (Level 3 trained) with planning and delivery of Forest School programmes. For this reason, you must ensure an established link with a Forest School Practitioner before attending this training.

Entry Qualifications Required:

  • Established link with an established level 3 Forest School Practitioner or current Campfire Cymru trainee
  • Aged 16 years or over
  • Level 1 qualification or equivalent (1 GCSE)
  • A current DBS check is expected and is the responsibility of your setting
